At times we can look at a goal and say to ourselves, “that’s impossible”. It might seem insurmountable, and in our mind we think about all the reasons we can’t do it. I’m too short. I’m too fat. I don’t have the right education. I don’t have the money. I’m not smart enough.
When you think this way it’s known as a, “self fulfilling prophesy”. When you say, “I can’t”, your mind slams the door to any other possibility. It stops searching for ways to attain that goal, and basically gives up.
One of my favorite quotes is from Henry Ford and it says, “Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you’re right.” What can and can’t you do if you set your mind to it. Have you ever really thought of the word, “mindset”. “Mind” is pretty self explanatory, but what about, “set”? The dictionary defines the word, “set”, as, “to fix firmly or in an immobile manner”. So when you have a, “mindset”, it means your mind cannot be moved from where you decide to set it.
If we want to succeed, in anything, we must have a mindset of success. A mindset that nothing is going to stop us from achieving our goal. A goal without a mindset is nothing but a dream. Goals, coupled with the proper mindset are attainable; otherwise, they are only dreams.
An acronym that I like to share with the young men that I coach in baseball is, “DIMITT”, which stands for, “Determination Is More Important Than Talent”. Have you ever thought you couldn’t do something, but then you accomplished it. What was your mindset then? Were you determined?
You CAN do it! I believe to get yourself in the right mindset you have to ask yourself questions instead of making statements. For example, “how can I do this?” What happens when you ask that questions? Your mind will actually search for a way to accomplish your objective. What happens when you make the statement, “I can’t do it”? All possibility is extinguished.
You and I have goals and we CAN achieve them. We WILL achieve them. This internet marketing thing is a puzzle that can be solved. At some point whether you are in Dean Holland’s, Starting With Marketing Academy, or if you are searching for a wayto achieve financial freedom, you asked yourself, “How can I do this?” When you asked yourself that question your mind started searching for answers.
Students of Dean Holland’s, Starting With Marketing Academy have found a way. His students, myself included, look forward to every training module and webinar. We look forward to Dean Holland opening up our minds and pouring in his knowledge. How to create our blogs, our posts, our social media have all been learned because of the Starting With Marketing Academy, and there is much more to come.
One of my biggest goals in all this is to pay if forward. I want to help you be successful. I want to help you attain your goals. I want to see you succeed. With the right mindset we can do anything. Please allow me the privilege of being your guide into the world of successful internet marketing. All you need to bring is your proper mindset.
All the best,
Ed

“One of my biggest goals in all this is to pay if forward”….That’s why we get along so well!! We are going in the same direction! We definitely think alike!!
Ed, Your posts are always right on!! Determination is what keeps me up at night learning and doing and watching the videos (and not getting enough sleep and working all day) so I CAN be able to get home with the kiddos and have a life! Joyce Meyer talks about it all the time, too. We have to do what we DON’T want to do NOW, so we can do what we DO want to do later.
Again, great post!!
Thanks for all your awesome insight.
Lisa~
Hi Lisa. Thanks for your comment… again.
I think it was entrepreneur Robert Allen that said we should work very hard for a short time, so we can enjoy life the rest of the time.
Keep up the hard work, and be sure to never neglect what’s important in life. God and family. I know you know that.
Don’t work too hard. Work smart instead.
Thanks again,
Ed
Hey! Ed…..
Been listening to some cd’s and Joyce says if we want some change, we gotta make it happen. She talks about being determined to make postive changes in your life no matter what you have to go through.
I never work hard!! I am blessed! You too!
Lisa~
P.S. Who the heck is Robert Allen?
Robert Allen wrote the book, “Nothing Down”, which was a first of it’s kind several years ago. He also wrote, “Multiple Streams of Income”, which is just as famous. He’s an entrepreneur, real estate investor, stock market investor, online entrepreneur, and in infopreneur.
If you want to know more, let me know. I’ve read a few of his books and invested in a course by him. I can still go to the seminars if I want, but I don’t want, not now anyway.
Gracias for el commento,
Ed
Hey Ed,
Determination and a ‘mindset of success’ as you say is very important to succeed. It is something I struggle with all the time. That’s why being part of a positive group is very important.
Hi Bob,
I believe was all struggle with it… I know I do. I think that fact that there are so many people in Starting With Marketing
with the same mindset really helps. You CAN do it! Your blog looks great and I know that you are ahead of me right now just
by looking at your site. Awesome! If I can ever help you in anyway though, please let me know.
Thanks again,
Ed
Hi Ed
Great post. You are right it is all about the mindset. If you think you are going to fail you do, if you think you will succeed then you do.
Its all about postive energy and be willing to not listen to negative comments.
Keep the positive energy.
Kerie
Hi Kerie,
Thank you for the comment. We will succeed if we follow Dean’s directions.
Thanks for following me on Twitter and I recently sent a Facebook request too.
Lets keep on striving!
Thanks again,
Ed
Hey Ed,
What a post!! It captured me instantly. I totally agree with your view on mind set and determination over pure skill.
A lot of people are born or attain new skills. What it takes to be in the successful 3% is to have a point of difference.
This is exactly what you are doing nice work!
We think a like my friend “How can I do this?” is what I am constantly asking myself, and like you say solving it is the solution.
Thanks for the post,
Karn
Hi Karn,
Thank you very much. Mindset matters.
I’m glad that you are in the academy too. Brilliant
minds think alike, and we do.
We “believe” and we WILL achieve.
Thanks again,
Ed
Hi Ed
You are right talent alone is not enough to succeed, you don’t have to be that great at something to be successful.
I believe their are three things that a person needs to succeed in business and and in life. Determination, not giving up and support..I also think if you have the mindset that you have no other choice but to succeed, and you will do whatever it takes to succeed… you will succeed in the end
Avis
Thanks for the comment Avis.
In my book, you are already a great success. Your blog looks great. I love your logo, AND your mindset is right on.
Keep doing what you’re doing, because it’s surely working for you my friend.
All the best,
Ed
Edward
Great post, the mindset is vital in allowing us to reach our goals and making our businesses successful.
By setting clear goals you can map a path to success, and quite often the importance of goal setting and planning is overlooked, which can be the difference in being part of the 1% that succeed online verses the 99% that fail.
Keep up the good work
Tom
Hi Tom,
Thanks for leaving your comment. Goals are key
in anything you do. You must have vision, set your
goals, then strive.
You’re right when you use the word map. Once we
know where we are going, we have to know how to
get there. Let’s strive to be part of the 1%.
Thanks again,
Ed
Hey Ed,
Positive and inspiring post. Its very easy to get weighed down and demotivated in this business so its important to take the time to get your attitude right. Every visitor, comment, sale etc is a landmark and should be celebrated and each time you feel good you want another one, then another. This is what builds success.
Keep it coming Ed.
Andy
Hi Andy,
Thanks for your comment. Yeah every little
accomplishment does feel great. Never really thought
about that. I guess I would call that momentum, which
would go hand in hand with consistency. You want
to keep those feeling of accomplishment coming.
Thanks again and all the best,
Ed
Ed… great post. There is another saying that I live by and I have seen it time and time again in the sports world “Hard Work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard! Stick to it my friend and the rewards will come!!!
Hi Darren! I like that VERY much. Some people think that
the world is owed to them, so they do NOT work very hard.
“Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard.”
I love that! Thank you for sharing that. I will share that
with people that I coach in the future.
All the best, and thank you again,
Ed
Hi Ed,
So true ….
It’s so important to believe that you can achieve anything and incorporate this into your business plan.
When things don’t appear to be working out. Write down a list of excuses why results aren’t happening and then make a plan to resolve each issue.
Like you say it’s about having a ‘Can Do’ attitude.
Keep in touch
John
Hi John,
Thanks for visiting my blog. With the right mindset we can do anything, we know that and I feel we should pass it on.
I’ve met a lot of people that go with the crowd in EVERYTHING they do, and they will continue to do so, unless we help them. I think that we should at least try.
All the best,
Ed
Ed,
You don’t even realize how prescient that post is!
Last couple days I’ve been wrestling with self-doubt about this whole internet marketing thing. Almost every person following me on twitter is an internet marketer. There are so many facets to learning this stuff.
Then, reading your post, I realized that if I put my mind in the right ‘Set’, I WILL do this! Thanks, bro and thanks for the comment on my blog!
Blog On!!!
Mike:o)
Hey Ed
I agree entirely with what you are saying about “Mindset”..!!
Alex Jeffreys say’s “plan tomorrow today”
I start the day with a numbered list…and don’t go any further untill I can positively tick it off…!!
Malcolm.t.
Hi Malcolm,
Thanks for paying me a visit. Yes, lists are good. I think that it’s also important to set time limits on those “to do” items; otherwise, your first three “to dos” could end up taking up your whole day. Especially this social media thing. I find I have to restrict myself to a certain time frame. But that’s just me.
All the best,
Ed
Hi Mike,
So true. Mindset can make or break you. Just decide that you want to succeed, and remember, “Your success depends on how many times you can fail and keep trying”, so never ever give up. You WILL succeed my friend.
All the best,
Ed
Hey Ed,
Great post. I like that ask questions instead of making statements. Seek and you shall find. You got it. The mindset for success is in this post.
Best,
Rob
Hey Ed, What a great blog and a great post, very true! I’ve just checked out your video – you are the Rubik’s master
Trude
Thanks Rob,
You already the right mindset. You have written an eBook, you have a great blog and you’re helping people in the process. Most of all, I know you are sincere, and thank you for that most of all.
Thanks again,
Ed
Ha-ha! Thanks Trude. We will make sense of this internet marketing puzzle soon enough. I had a teacher once that had a sign posted on his wall that said, “If all else fails, follow directions.” If we follow Dean’s direction we will do awesome!
Thanks again,
Ed
Hi Coach
They say sport reflects life, eh not sure how to finish that sentence.
Your blog is a big slap in the face to my present mindset. So i will be coming back time and again to be slapped again.
Tom Shaw
Hi Tom,
Yeah. It’s hard to look at personal problems the same after watching Nick
and what he goes through. I’m glad I could get the wheels turning in your mind.
Please let me know if I can help you out with anything.
Thanks again and all the best,
Ed
Ed,
Excellent post. Its amazing how powerful one’s frame of mind can be. The Henry Ford quote is bang on.
Thanks for the inspiration.
Teddy
Hi Teddy,
Thank you for stopping by. Like Earl Nightingale says, “You become what you think about.” That’s why I believe that it’s important to safeguard our mindset and our thoughts. Just keep on with the new habits that you’ve developed and keep your great mindset and I know you will be very successful.
Thanks again, and all the best,
Ed
Hey Ed you knocked it out of the park in this post once again. Mindset is what I’m working on daily right now. I got my PHD (Poor, Hungry & Determined).
Mindset along with all the pieces laid out in chunk size bites, there’s no reason we all can’t be successful in this.
-Cuzin Tim
Hi Cuzin Tim,
I love your PHD acronym! The “D” in your acronym is hugely important. Like I mentioned in the post, “DIMITT – Determination Is More Important Than Talent”. Successful people are determined. You can have someone who doesn’t have the talent, but with determination they overcome any pitfalls they may have.
One thing that helps me is having a compelling “why”. For example, if your closest relative was chronically ill what would you do to save them? Anything, right? It wouldn’t matter what you had to do, you would do it because your WHY is so great. Why would you do anything to save her? The why, I believe is because of your love for her or him. Cuzin, be determined and stay determined! I look forward to watching your success.
All the best,
Ed
Hi Ed,
First off thx for your commenting on my blog and as your posting is about “rifght mindset” I can say: You must have that attitude= mindset as you are one out of 5 or 6 in our group, always on his way to help others out or supplying interesting posts or comments.
Yeah, I do not only believe that the right mindset is one of the most important achievements one has to be targeting at, but that has not to happen in your mind only but must be validated through your / my activities and thus mindset must be put into real life and action and I know that for a long time, even not long ago, I thought to have the right mindset but not the corresponding action ! This is the recognition I had to find out after 15 long years.
Nevertheless thank you for your enticing and spicy posting.
Success is your´s !
Reinhard,the guy with hat on
Hi Reinhard.
Thanks for your comment. Just keep plugging away at what you’re doing. Action does say more than word, so we need to walk the talk.
Thanks so much,
Ed
